Adaora Umeoji Is The First Female GMD Of Zenith Bank

Dr. Adaora Umeoji's appointment as the new Group Managing Director (GMD). of Zenith Bank was welcomed with delight judging from feedback from social media circles.

According to Channels Television, Umeoji's appointment makes her the first female GMD of the bank.

She will take over from the current GMD, Dr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu, whose tenure expires on May 31, 2024.

Umeoji has a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Jos. Also, she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a first-class honour in Law from Baze University, Abuja.


The new Zenith Bank GMD has a Master of Law Degree from the University of Salford, United Kingdom as well as a Master in Business Administration from the University of Calabar.


She is an alumna of Harvard Business School, Wharton Business School, Columbia Business School, MIT Sloan School of Management and Apollos University,

Umeoji is a fellow of the Chartered Banker Institute, UK, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators, the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria, Nigerian Institute of Management, the Institute of Credit Administration and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Nigeria among others.

Before her appointment, she has been the Deputy Managing Director of the bank since October 28, 2016.
